Habeas schmabeas

when the Chinese international news agency reports that Britain has the longest period for detention without trial of any democracy, including Turkey. And the government wants to extend it.

You don't wake up one morning in a dictatorship. There are a thousand little betrayals and moments of cowardice. Zygmunt Bauman, who knows a little about dictatorships, has written well on 'rationality' and bureaucracy... And is a damn nice guy to boot...
